The Story

What began as a casual online conversation, sparked by a shared interest of role-playing games, became something more. A humorous comment about a favorite character led to a real-life connection. James (Westerfield), a quality fan (as requested) in hand, traveled to Memphis for a double feature at the Summer Ave drive-in (Top Gun: Maverick, where we riffed on the movie the whole time). This led to thousands of miles of weekends together between Memphis and Nashville. 'I had to know', James said to himself. Rusty never had thought he would be adopted by the four cats.

After two and a half years, it's time. In classic fashion, secret plans of proposals were unhinged and on November 6th, 2024, James and Rusty had the same idea: It was time to tie the knot. Rings were ordered and plans were made.

From our home together in Memphis ('I won.', Rusty says), the couple will be eloping to Las Vegas for a small, private ceremony at the Little Neon Chapel (the same venue where Khloe Kardashian of Keeping Up With The Cardassians* fame had her ceremony) with Elvis presiding over the ceremony. The event will be on Google Meet as well. Receptions will be planned in Tennessee for those who wish to celebrate in person.

*the typo was intentional. Look up the Cardassians. James and Rusty have no respect for anyone in the Kardashian family.

Epilogue

The music had barely settled after their whirlwind ceremony at the Little Neon Chapel when James and Rusty knew this was the start of something truly special. Elvis, with a mischievous glint in his eye and a perfectly executed "Little Less Conversation" had pronounced them husband and husband.

As they sipped champagne in their hotel suite with family: They were married. Bound by a shared love of RPGs, and quirky senses of humor, had officially embarked on their newest adventure.

The days ahead held the promise of a future honeymoon (coming January) filled with adventure exploration, and a lack of Elvis impersonations. No matter where their journey took them, the memory of their ceremony, officiated by the King himself, will endure.
